Over the course of March and April 2024, Togo’s President Faure Gnassingbé introduced constitutional changes designed to alter the country’s system of governance. Many have dubbed the changes a constitutional coup. Speaking on the development, Farida Bemba Nabourema, Executive Director of the Togolese Civil League, shared her thoughts with Africa Speaks. Farida is a fearless Togolese human rights activist, writer, and the organiser of the campaign “Faure Must Go.”
