Gideon Adeyeni
Position: Project Officer
Gideon Adeyeni is a seasoned activist with a broad spectrum of interests that encompass economic equality, poverty eradication, environmental sustainability, climate justice, political reform, and cultural renewal. With over a decade of experience in community mobilization, movement building, and radical campaigning, Gideon has demonstrated his commitment to various causes.
His background includes leading campaigns both on campus as a student and as a vocal citizen advocating for rights such as education, freedom of assembly, and freedom of thought. Actively involved in social movements in Nigeria and globally, Gideon is a member and volunteer with organizations such as Campaign for Democratic and Workersā Rights (CDWR), Committee for a Workers International (CWI), and Africans Rising (AR).
Gideon played a pivotal role in the consultative process for the Vote Right Nigeria Campaign of Africans Rising between 2017 and 2018. Notably, during the #EndSARS movement of 2020, he mobilized actions on the ground and contributed to documenting events, moods, and demands of the spontaneous movement.
Despite facing victimization for his activism, including suspension as a student and arrest and prosecution in recent years, Gideon remains steadfast in his belief that the struggle for justice aims to establish an economic system that is truly equitable, a political system that is genuinely democratic, an environmental system that is truly sustainable, and a cultural system that is truly dynamic for all people and humanity.
Currently pursuing a Doctor of Philosophy degree in Rural and Urban Liveability, Sustainable Development, and Climate Change at the University of Ibadan, Nigeria, Gideon is also a fellow of the Freidrich Ebert Stiftung Young Workers Network in Nigeria. His dedication extends to serving as a trustee of Re-Alliance, a global network of permaculture and regenerative practitioners.
Gideon’s recent focus involves mobilizing young people to take a central role in creating change, recognizing the youth’s unmatched energy, inventiveness, and optimism as vital drivers of core change processes. While doing so, he emphasizes the importance of a cross-generational movement.
